Consistency is the Cheat Code to Life

The saying "Rome wasn't built in a day" gets tossed around a lot. People use it to describe fitness goals, a new business, house work. It's a saying that falls on deaf ears because of how much it's used in the world today. But do you think some people just got together and were handed 2 MILLION SQUARE MILES. That's how much they controlled at the peak. Now in todays world of instant communication and supply chain, this seems very achievable. I mean the US is almost double that. But it was achieved when letters were delivered by horse! Anything worth doing takes time. I have been screwed over by almost every time something promised "fast results". Investments, Weight Loss, you name it. It doesn't work like that. You have to be meticulous and consistent.

The trap is some people out there do get very lucky. I met a guy who put his life savings into Netflix in 2010. Now him and his family live off dividends. But if you ask any advisor out there if that was a good idea they would have said NO. I don't claim to be an advisor (even though I do hold my series 65 certification) but the point is that was a gamble. A home run! The goal of investing isn't home runs. Sorry to burst your bubble. But we want base hits. Have you seen the movie "Money Ball"? If not, stop reading and go watch it. Essentially the Oakland A's started to re-think baseball strategy. "What if we just took everything they give us?" Walk as much as possible, don't go for double plays, never bunt. That is the investing strategy I like. Do the easy stuff. Invest $25-$100 a week. Do it every week. Use Index funds. $VOO is most peoples favorite choice. Here is a compound interest calculator. The market returns from 8%-10% annually on average.

That's the magic of consistency. Make a plan, and stick to it. I'm in the process of making a calendar you can use for consistent investing. Make sure to subscribe to the email list to be the first to get it!
